How We Rank Products

Every product on Top10TierProducts earns its tier the same way: measured against everything else in its class, on the metrics that matter to real buyers. Nothing buys its way onto a list, and nothing is ranked on hype. Here is exactly how the process works, step by step.

1. We define the buyer

Before ranking anything, we map out who is shopping in this category and why. A security camera for a renter in a small apartment has very different priorities from one for a large house with a garden. We rank against those real needs, not against a generic spec sheet, which is why our guides break out best picks for specific situations rather than crowning a single winner for everyone.

2. We research at retail

We build our shortlist from products that are genuinely available to buy right now. We gather verified specifications, manufacturer documentation and credible, first-hand owner feedback, and we buy units to test where hands-on evaluation actually changes the verdict. We ignore products that are discontinued, perpetually out of stock or not sold in the markets our readers shop in.

3. We compare head-to-head

Each contender is scored on a single, transparent rubric covering performance, build quality, ease of use, features and value for money. Because every product in a category is judged on exactly the same rubric, the comparison is fair and consistent, and a high score means the same thing across every pick on the page.

4. We score and assign a tier

Scores out of ten map to tiers from S, the best in class, down to C. We publish both the score and the tier on every guide, so you can see not only our ranking but how confident we are in it. A narrow gap between two products is visible in their scores, not hidden behind a simple list order.

5. We explain every pick

A ranking is only useful if you understand the reasoning. For every product we publish why we picked it, who should buy it, who should avoid it, and its key specifications. If a product is brilliant for one type of buyer and wrong for another, we say so clearly.

6. We re-check on a schedule

Models get replaced, prices move and new rivals appear. We revisit our rankings regularly, update picks as the market changes, and stamp each guide with a visible last-updated date and an update log so you can trust that what you are reading is current.

What we never do

We never accept payment for placement, never invent prices, ratings or stock status, never copy descriptions from manufacturers or other sites, and never claim to have tested something we have not. If we cannot do it honestly, we do not publish it.
